At Manosfair we sell a growing range of high quality products which have been handcrafted by artisans from all around the world.
We aim to promote and develop the traditional skills of artisans, who face challenging living conditions and restricted opportunities, by bringing their work to global markets through various retail channels. Whilst promoting fair trade, equal opportunity, and sustainable development.
Unlike other businesses the primary goal of Mansofair is not to maximize profits. Our principal objective is to help improve the living conditions of the artisans whose products we sell. This might sound like the rhetoric of a charity or non-governmental organization (NGO), but we are neither. As a social business we operate using a profitable commercial model which means that the sustainability of our organization is not reliant upon donations, grants and the generosity of others.
Rather than distribute our profits to external shareholders, we currently reinvest all of our profits back into the business so that it can grow and ultimately reach more people who need our help.
The name ‘Manosfair’ is derived from the Spanish word ‘manos’ which means ‘hands’, and the English word ‘fair’. Our name symbolizes our products which have all been handmade using fair trade principles. By combining words from two different languages our name embodies the spirit of diverse cultures collaborating in mutually beneficial relationships.
Everything that we sell has been handmade using fair trade principles making each product truly unique.
Most conventional businesses quietly implement a policy of known as ‘planned obsolescence’, whereby they design their products to eventually become obsolete. The idea of planned obsolescence is that when the product breaks, or goes out of fashion customers will have no choice but to purchase the “latest release” consequently increasing the companies’ profits.
At Manosfair we believe that planned obsolescence is not only unsustainable, but insincere and deceitful. Our mantra is simple: “if it’s not of the highest quality we won’t sell it”. All of our products are handmade by skilled artisans, and thoroughly checked for quality before going on sale.
When you shop with us you can be sure that our products are of the highest quality having been crafted to last for as long as possible.
At Manosfair we adhere to the 10 Principles of Fair Trade prescribed by the World Fair Trade Organization. It is our goal to become a member of the WFTO, but before we can can be considered for membership we must be registered as a business for at least two years.
If you have questions about who we are, what we do, or anything else for that matter we’d love to hear from you!
